Located in Huixian County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province, Henan Baoquan Tourist Area is composed of two major parks, the Grand Canyon and the Cliff World, with a total area of 110 square kilometers. The Luojia Temple Cableway and the Cave Sightseeing Elevator are located in the north and south respectively, enabling the connection between the cliff and the canyon for a three-dimensional tour. Baoquan · Luojia Temple Ecotourism Sightseeing Cableway is located in Baoquan Tourist Area, Bobi Town, Huixian County, Henan Province, with a total investment of 300 million yuan. The products of this project are fully imported from Doppelmayr of Austria and Garaventa of Switzerland. It includes the ecological platforms at the upper and lower stations of the Cableway, the line equipment inside the stations, the tourist reception center, distribution center, transfer center and other supporting and service facilities. The Cableway is a double-bearing and single-traction reciprocating cableway, with a total length of 1100 meters, a height difference of 334 meters, and an operating speed of 10 meters per second. It uses two reciprocating cabins that can each carry 180 people, with a passenger capacity of 2500 people per hour. On March 16, 2022, it was recognized by the China Cableway Association as the reciprocating cableway with the largest carrying capacity and transportation volume in China at present. The cabin that can carry 180 people is currently the largest single-layer monomer cabin in the world.

The L-shaped Cave Elevator has a total investment of 220 million yuan. The main construction contents include an L-shaped tunnel (horizontal tunnel + vertical tunnel), with the horizontal tunnel being about 372 meters long and the vertical tunnel being about 336 meters high. It is currently the highest sightseeing elevator in operation in the country and one of the three greatest wonders of Baoquan. It includes three sightseeing elevators, the upper and lower stations of the elevators, the lines and electrical control equipment inside the stations, the tunnel stairs and distribution service facilities, etc. It is a double-deck sightseeing elevator. The main equipment of the elevator includes traction machine (winch), guide rail, counterweight device, safety device, signal control system, car and hall door, etc.

The overall shape of the platform is like a floating auspicious cloud, flowing smoothly and encircling the mountains. The outer side of the upper platform is made of ultra-clear glass, which is transparent and pure, bringing a light and thrilling visual experience. The three structural supports are like birds soaring high with their wings spread, with light and graceful images, echoing the auspicious cloud. The lower challenge platform is like the flowing ribbon of a Hanfu costume, complementing the upper platform. The Xiangyun Observation Platform has a total area of 1739 square meters, and the glass skywalk features a tour route length of 142 meters, with a total cantilever length of 28/15 meters. It contains a variety of high-altitude experience projects such as bungee jumping, glass slide, thrilling bridge, observation platform, transportation skywalk, experience skywalk, and cliffside platform.

Tian Jing, with its still reflection like a sinking jade and a picture-perfect inverted image, resembles a mirror of the sky. It is the best platform to view the Camel Peak on the Danxia Sky Road on the cliff. The cliff walls on both sides are lofty, standing thousands of feet tall, majestic and spectacular, everywhere showcasing the uncanny workmanship of nature, which is truly astonishing. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove traveled here and stopped to admire the canyon peaks. As this platform is located at a position where the Camel Peak is viewed from the side, only one peak is seen standing like a stone pillar, without the full view. Thus, they had a dispute about whether it was a peak or a ridge, which precisely corresponds the poem “It’s a range viewed in face and peaks viewed from the side, assuming different shapes viewed from far and wide” by Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty 500 years later.

Danya Sky Road stretches for 3,000 meters, brimming with wild charm and enchanting scenery, while maintaining the original ecological road surface and environment. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Ji Kang wrote in his "Odes to Guqin": "The red cliffs are perilous and craggy, with the blue walls soaring thousands of feet." The mountains on the cliff are steep, with crisscross gullies; the valleys under the cliff are deep and serene, with connected pools and waterfalls. Along both sides of the road are towering red-rock cliffs that seem as if they were carved by knives and axes, like a giant dragon perched above the Baoquan Grand Canyon. Along the way, there are also magnificent and breathtaking wonders that are located everywhere, revealing a primitive, rough, and magnificent beauty. The blue sky connects with it, and the white clouds accompany it, thus it is named the "Danya Sky Road".

Du Zhan Ao Tou is also known as Guibei Mountain (Turtle Back Mountain). According to legend, in ancient times, the Fire God Zhurong and the Water God Gonggong fought. Gonggong accidentally broke the pillar that supported the sky, Buzhou Mountain. In an instant, the sky collapsed, the earth sank, the Milky Way poured down, and floods raged. Nvwa sympathized with the suffering people and repaired the heaven and earth with the Five-Colored Stones. Fearing that the repaired heaven and earth would collapse again, she ordered a giant turtle in the Taihang Mountains to carry the four poles of the heaven and earth. Since then, the heaven and earth have been sound and peaceful. The local people, in gratitude for the great virtue of the heaven, named the mountain transformed by the turtle as Guibei Mountain. Because it occupies this prime location exclusively, it is named “Du Zhan Ao Tou”. Throughout history, many celebrities and scholars have specially come here to pay their respects, praying for success, a prosperous career, and a long and healthy life.

Jianlong Waterfall, also known as the Tantou Waterfall, is named after the Tantou Village above the waterfall. It plunges from a cliff at an altitude of 580 meters to the bottom of the ravine at an altitude of 260 meters, with a drop of 320 meters. The maximum flow of the waterfall can reach 3000 cubic meters per second, earning it the reputation of “The First Waterfall in Central Plains”. Witnessing this magnificent sight, one might be reminded of the poetic genius Li Bai’s poem: “Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high, as if the Silver River fell from azure sky.” The waterfall tumbles down from the sky with a thundering roar, crashing into the pool below and splashing up strings of silver pearls. In the air and at the bottom of the pool, it seems as if the water transforms into a dragon, soaring and swirling with myriad forms and endless variations. The waterfall cascades down the steep rock wall, instantly scattering thousands of pearls and splashing thousands of silver flowers, like a spray of pearls and flying snow, as magnificent as a dancing jade dragon. The waterfall is either powerful, or graceful, either plunging straight down, or flowing gently, forming a wonderful natural landscape painting with the blue sky, white clouds, clear water and red mountains.

The Baoquan area is part of the Yu River system. According to the ancient text Classic of Mountains and Seas, the Yu River is a source of pure water and the origin of the legends surrounding the Jade River, Jade Lake, Jade Stream, and Jade Mother. The Jade Maidens, attendants of the Jade Mother, are said to have bathed and played here. Strikingly, the shape of the Jade Maiden Waterfall resembles a maiden emerging from the water, standing gracefully in the turquoise pool, her beauty awe-inspiring and otherworldly.

A massive torrent of water plunges from the cliff top as sharp as if cut by a knife, with a drop of over 180 meters, crashing directly onto the bottom of the cliff. It is just like a flying dragon in the sky, with a magnificent and imposing momentum. With abundant water flow throughout the year, its roaring sound can be heard miles away. Standing nearby, you can feel a strong air current impact, presenting a truly breathtaking and astonishing scene.

History of Baoquan

During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression
During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the older generation of revolutionaries such as Liu Bocheng, the commander of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army, Chen Geng, the commander of the 386th Brigade, Pi Dingjun, the commander of the Seventh Military Sub-region in Taihang, and Guo Xing, the real-life model of Li Xiangyang, led the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians to fight bravely and tenaciously here. They commanded more than 120 battles of various scales, dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese invaders, and achieved victories one after another. The revolutionary red scenic spots are a major feature of Baoquan. Here, the complete sites of the Eighth Route Army’s intelligence agency, Chen Geng’s secret anti-Japanese trail, the former site of the Xinxiang City Working Committee, and the former site of the Eighth Route Army’s rear hospital are preserved. Standing here to pay respects is truly heart-stirring.

During the Socialist Construction Period
Over a period of ten years, under the leadership of Zheng Yonghe, the then Secretary of the Huixian County Party Committee, 550,000 people in Huixian County staged a battle to conquer nature and transform the mountains and rivers in the Taihang Mountains. They built 19 large and medium-sized reservoirs, constructed 5,122 main and branch irrigation canals, with a total length of 3,262 kilometers, and an effective irrigation area of 732,000 mu, renovated 292,000 mu of terraced fields, controlled soil erosion in an area of 650 square kilometers, dug 34 highway tunnels, with a total length of 12,425 meters, built 59 bridges, with a total length of 2,965 meters, and newly built and expanded 556 kilometers of highways.

During the Reform and Opening-up Period
Baoquan Pumped Storage Power Station, a national key project and a green project, has a total investment of 4.327 billion yuan. The project started construction on March 28, 2003, was completed in 2009, and was put into use in 2010. It consists of the upper reservoir, the lower reservoir, the water delivery system, the underground cave group and the switch station. It is equipped with four reversible pump-turbine units with a single unit capacity of 300MW, a total installed capacity of 1200MW and an annual power generation of 2.01 billion kWh. It has effectively addressed the issue of peak-valley load difference of the Henan Power Grid. It also plays a role in frequency modulation and phase modulation of the power grid, providing a positive and secure guarantee for the safe operation and emergency backup of the power system.
